Principal's Message
To the Midwood High School Staff, Students, Families, Alumni, and Community Partners,
My name is Dr. Robert J. Quinlan and it is my pleasure and honor to introduce myself as Midwood High School’s ninth principal. I am extremely excited, fortunate, and proud to lead the Midwood school community! I look forward to immersing myself in the storied history, culture, traditions, and world-class programs offered at Midwood, along with its ample offerings of arts, athletics, and after-school clubs within such a diverse student population. The Midwood pillars of Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility align to my core values and I know that they are the ingredients to a strong educational foundation.
As a former history teacher and AP of Guidance and Humanities, I honor and respect Midwood’s stellar reputation and history which began just a few months before Pearl Harbor in 1941, a war my grandfather served in while in the Merchant Marines. The Midwood Alumni Association in of itself offers decades of wisdom and experience and I look forward to learning more about Midwood’s history from them. I am grateful and humbled to work very closely with the Midwood Cabinet, the entire Midwood staff, and Superintendent Prayor’s district team in ensuring continued excellence for the Medical Science Program, Humanities Program, LASI, and the comprehensive offerings of athletics and activities for all students.
My goal and focus will be engaging myself in the celebrated school culture of Midwood. I am approachable, personable, and passionate about working with students, educators, and families each day to support rigorous and fruitful high school experiences for students. My style is one of support, optimism, listening and engaging in conversation with all stakeholders, and getting out there in the community. Some of my best memories are from my high school years, a school very similar to Midwood, where I was a scholar athlete (soccer and lacrosse), AP student, and National and Foreign Language Honor Society member. I believe that ensuring all students are involved in a combination of Academics, Activities, Arts, or Athletics will develop a well-rounded, unforgettable high school experience that will best prepare them for a successful future.
I understand that transitions are never easy. I honor that. I promise the Midwood community that I will work tirelessly to fill the big shoes that I am replacing. Equally important, I believe in short order you will see how committed and passionate I am about education for all students. I am student-centered, teacher-centered, and love working with parents and families to ensure a high-quality education for our kids. I look back at all the wonderful mentors I’ve had and am very grateful for their wisdom, guidance, and feedback, molding me into who I am today. No doubt I will experience the same at Midwood while I listen and learn.
I look forward to working with each of you as we prepare to begin a successful 2022-2023 school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Robert J. Quinlan
